Universities
Higher education opportunities abound in Springfield. Whether you are a traditional college freshman, adult, graduate, transfer, international, or non-degree seeking student, Springfield has a campus and a program that are right for you. Southwest Missouri State University (SMSU), the areaís largest university and the second largest in the state, offers studies in more than 140 undergraduate and 40 graduate academic disciplines. SMSU is charged with a public affairs mission. The rapidly growing Ozarks Technical Community College offers credit and noncredit courses, customized training courses for businesses, and technical training for high school students. Founded in 1873 and housed on a historic, 55-acre center city campus, Drury University is a nationally recognized liberal arts institution. Drury is known for the Breech School of Business and the Hammons School of Architecture. Evangel University, founded in 1955 and affiliated with the Assemblies of God Church, continues to educate and inspire students on its 80-acre campus. Several other area colleges are church sponsored, including Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Baptist Bible College, Central Bible College, and Southwest Baptist University of nearby Bolivar, which operates a center in Springfield.
